Head Exchange Sequence

This sequence is used before you replace the head unit of the TM-J8000 printer. You need a PC

computer with an interface cable, the TM-J8000 Service Utility, and an ink discharging cartridge

to execute this sequence.

Follow the steps below to perform the sequence.

1. Install the paper roll in the printer. (The sequence does not work without the paper roll.)

2. Connect a PC computer with an appropriate interface cable and set the data communication

parameters; then turn on the computer and printer power.

3. Run the TM-J8000 Service Utility and follow the screen message to set the interface type.

4. Choose the “Head exchange sequence” option on the main menu.

5. Cross out a number from the table on the label of the ink discharging cartridge. If the

cartridge is used more than 26 times, do not use it.

6. When the PAPER OUT LED blinks, replace the ink cartridge with the ink discharging

cartridge.

7. Press the PAPER FEED button. The printer begins the head exchange sequence and blinks the

POWER LED.

8. When the head exchange sequence is finished, the POWER LED blinking stops and the

PAPER OUT LED blinks.

9. Turn off the front power switch. The printer moves the head carriage to the left end position

before the power goes off.

10. Make sure the POWER LED goes off; then turn off the rear power switch.

11. Remove the ink discharging cartridge and paper roll.

Note:

You can also perform the head exchange sequence with the following procedure.

1. Install the paper roll in the printer. (The sequence does not work without the paper roll.)

2. Turn the printer power on, then turn off the front power switch.

3. Open the printer cover.

4. While holding down the

CLEANING

button, turn on the printer using the front switch.

5. Release the

CLEANING

button.

6. Press the

CLEANING

button 14 times, then close the printer cover.
